Mayor's Corner - August 2018
Summer is in full swing, bringing with it high heat, humidity, and dry conditions. In addition to protecting ourselves and our loved ones, it is important to protect our community and its surroundings. During critical fire weather, it is crucial that our residents and business owners stay alert and take extra precautions to avoid inadvertently sparking a wildfire. Here are a few steps you can take to do your part: 1) ensure brush has been cleared from your property and meets LA County requirements; 2) consider landscaping with fire-resistant, low-growing plants with high moisture content; 3) keep woodpiles, propane tanks and combustible materials away from the house and other structures; 4) properly maintain your vehicles. For additional information, please visit the County website. The National Weather Service also has tips for staying cool when temperatures rise: 1) drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity; 2) wear light clothing and dress for the heat; 3) never leave kids, seniors and pets alone in a vehicle; 4) check on neighbors who might be vulnerable to the heat; 5) stay cool indoors. The Diamond Bar Library is available to the public as a designated cooling center. Located at 21800 Copley Drive, the Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On an exciting note, our restaurants are gearing up for Diamond Bar Restaurant Week (DBRW) which is set to take place October 5–21. During the event, residents will have the opportunity to get a taste of our local chefs’ talents and further support the Diamond Bar restaurant community. I encourage you to take advantage of this once-a-year offering; to view a list of participating restaurants and for additional DBRW details, please visit the dedicated website.
