Mayor's Corner for March 2018SCHOOL TRAFFIC SAFETY
The city of Diamond Bar is fortunate to be home to two award-wining school districts, the Walnut Valley Unified School District and the Pomona Unified School District. The reputation of having great public schools attracts many families to our city. Parents and children make their way to school through a variety of mobility methods, and as drivers, it is important to be cautious every time we are behind the wheel, especially when passing through school zones.
In support of the Council’s strategic plan goal to promote a Safe, Sustainable and Healthy Community,
I would like to provide you with a few school traffic safety tips: 1) slow down and obey all traffic laws and speed limits - including crossing guards directing traffic; 2) keep an eye out for children walking in the street and across crosswalks; 3) watch for school buses and be alert for children gathering near bus stops; 4) when backing out of a driveway or leaving a garage, watch for children headed to school; and 5) do not talk or text on your cell phone while driving. A few precautions go a long way toward keeping children safe.
For additional information regarding the City’s Strategic Plan, I invite you to attend the State of the City Address
taking place on Wednesday, March 28 at the Diamond Bar Center – located at 1600 Grand Avenue. The State of the City is an excellent opportunity to hear about City projects, programs, and initiatives that enhance the community’s quality of living, and about the challenges and opportunities that the City will face in the upcoming years.
