Residents Asked to Eliminate Outdoor Watering for 15 DaysThe Walnut Valley Water District is asking customers to eliminate outdoor watering for 15 days while the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California shuts down a critical imported water pipeline for emergency repair. This is a voluntary request for the time frame of September 6 through September 20.
Below are tips on how residents can prepare their landscaping for the no watering period. Landscape conditions will improve once the emergency repairs are complete and regular watering schedules resume. - Set your sprinkler timer to “OFF” the evening of September 5
- Water your lawn as normal before September 6 (3 days a week, 15 minutes each station)
- Add mulch around your plants and trees to retain moisture, mulch should be three inches from the base
- Put a bucket in your shower to collect water as the shower warms up. Use for houseplants, sensitive outdoor plants, and areas of the lawn that may show excessive stress (hot spots).
- 2 weeks of no watering will not kill your lawn. Though you will see a noticeable yellowing, it will improve once watering schedules resume.
A detailed description of the emergency repair is available at: https://www.mwdh2o.com/projects-in-your-community/
