Beginners Smart Gardening WorkshopResidents are invited to participate in a free workshop to learn the basic techniques of backyard composting, worm composting, water wise gardening, and edible gardening. The composting workshop, hosted by the Los Angeles County Public Works Department, will take place 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 20 at the Diamond Bar Center. Compost bins will be available for purchase for the discounted price of $45 ($65 for the worm compost bin). Advance registration is not required. Diamond Bar Center is located at 1600 Grand Avenue. Drop-In Paper Shredding EventNeed to get rid of your old, unwanted and confidential papers? Clean out your filing cabinets, drawers and closets, and bring your unneeded documents to a free paper shredding event hosted by the City. This drive-through, contactless event will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, August 27. All shredding occurs on site.
Prepare for the event by: - Removing all binders, rubber bands, plastic page protectors, plastic bags, plastic file tabs, CDs and other hard items from your documents. Staples, paper clips, and fasteners do not need to be removed.
- Putting the documents inside two bags or banker boxes of paper (equivalent to a single 13-gallon plastic trash bag).
- Placing the bags or boxes of documents for shredding in the car trunk or truck bed, and staying in the vehicle once at the event site. Staff will guide you to the shredding area, remove the documents, and shred them while you wait.

LA County Mobile HHWE CollectionThe next Los Angeles County Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste (HHW/E-Waste) collection event is scheduled for Saturday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to -3 p.m. at 2118 N. White Avenue, Pomona. If you are planning on participating, place your items in an unwanted box/disposable container and load them into your vehicle trunk or pickup bed. Remain in your vehicle when you arrive at the event. Collection site personnel will direct you to the place where they will unload your items while you wait.
