Districting Next Steps - Approval of Proposed District MapAt its next meeting, the City Council is holding a public hearing prior to considering second reading and adoption of an ordinance to transition to by-district elections starting with this year’s November elections. This meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on May 3, and will offer both in-person and online/telephonic participation options. This ordinance establishes by-district elections of council members from five voting districts, and resolves that those elections will be held in three of the five districts in November 2022, with the remaining two districts having elections at the following municipal election of November 2024. In addition, the ordinance will approve the City Council's selected preferred map (Public Map 124279), designating the five district boundaries and establishing the sequencing of district elections – 1, 3, and 4 in 2022, and 2 and 5 in 2024. Public Map 124279 complies with both federal and state mandated criteria that calls for each voting district to contain nearly equal population, be geographically contiguous, and keep communities of interest together.

April 26, 2022 Planning Commission Meeting Update - Crooked Creek Residential SubdivisionBy a 5-1 vote, the Planning Commission recommended that the City Council approve the proposed Crooked Creek residential subdivision, a seven-home residential project located between the southern terminus of Crooked Creek Drive and City limits. The City Council will consider the Planning Commission’s recommendation at a future public hearing.
The project proposes to subdivide the property for seven single-family residential lots (five of the seven homes are proposed to include an attached Accessory Dwelling Unit). It also proposes to reserve one lot for a trailhead that anticipates access to the county’s Schabarum trail system, and to dedicate a 10.4-acre lot for preserved open space. Access to the lots will be provided by extending Crooked Creek Drive, which will be dedicated to the City as a public street.
The project applicant is also requesting a permit for the removal of 62 existing trees (58 Southern California black walnuts and 4 coast live oaks), and on-site planting of 213 replacement trees (201 Southern California black walnuts and 12 coast live oaks).
