Transition to District-Based Elections: City to Have a Five-District and Rotating-Mayor ModelAs part of its transition from an at-large election system to a district-based format – and ahead of the preparation of draft district maps – the City Council held a public hearing during its regular meeting of March 15, 2022.
At this public hearing, City Council took public comment, deliberated, and decided on how many districts to create and how the mayor will be selected after the transition to district elections is completed in early May. Council consensus was to create five voting district and for the mayor to continue to be selected by a majority vote of all members of the city council during the annual reorganization meeting.

Diamond Bar Boulevard Slope FailureOn Thursday, March 17, City staff received a report of a mudslide on the slope adjacent to northbound Diamond Bar Blvd, across the street from Lorbeer Middle School. Public Works and Code Enforcement saff responded and found a broken irrigation line had been left on Charmingdale Rd. causing the slope behind the property to fail, leading to mud and debris spilling over the private wall and onto the sidewalk and roadway. Public Works staff and the City’s maintenance contractor, MCE. cleaned up the spill and worked with the Walnut Valley Water District to shut off the valve to the irrigation line. Public Works staff is currently working with the property owner to repair the slope and recover any costs that may have been incurred as a result of the failure.

Diamond Bar Center PromotionThis past weekend, Center staff joined hundreds of vendors to promote the availability of the Diamond Bar Center to host weddings and special events as well as to promote the upcoming bridal show at the California Bridal & Wedding Expo on Sunday, March 13 at the LA Convention Center. With over 5,000 guests pre-registered to attend the Expo, staff had the opportunity to interact with thousands of soon-to-be brides and grooms, and wedding vendors. The extremely busy event resulted in numerous appointments from those interested in renting the facility and dozens of vendor contacts from those interested in participating in the May 22 Diamond Bar Center Bridal Show. Great job Recreation Coordinator Monique Weeks and Senior Recreation Leader Arle Vazquez!
