Transition to District-Based Elections: City to Have a
Five-District and Rotating-Mayor Model

As part of its transition from an at-large election system to a district-based format – and ahead of the preparation of draft district maps – the City Council held a public hearing during its regular meeting of March 15, 2022.

At this public hearing, City Council took public comment, deliberated, and decided on how many districts to create and how the mayor will be selected after the transition to district elections is completed in early May. Council consensus was to create five voting district and for the mayor to continue to be selected by a majority vote of all members of the city council during the annual reorganization meeting.

Draw your Map

In the next couple of days, the City will make available both a web-based mapping tool and printable maps to allow community members to provide input to the City Council on how the five voting districts should be drawn. These mapping tools will be made available on the dedicated Districting Diamond Bar web page.

Complete a Community of Interest Survey

Do you believe you live in a geographically definable area where your neighbors and you share at least one important common interest (e.g., homeowners association, school, transportation system). You can let the City Council know what the boundaries of this community are, and why it should be kept together when the five districts are created by completing a quick online survey.
