Draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Available for Review Until December 10, 2021

After more than eight months of consultation with a wide variety of agencies and informative sources, the City has released a draft of its updated Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP).

The draft LHMP is available on the City website at www.diamondbarca.gov/hazardplan, and community members will have until December 10 to review it and share their feedback.

Aimed at helping state and local governments understand and reduce their vulnerability to natural hazards, LHMPs are required to comply with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, which places a strong focus on pre-disaster planning.

The City’s 2022 LHMP details how natural hazards common to Diamond Bar such as wildfires, earthquakes, and landslides might affect the community, identifies proactive actions the City can take to lessen the impact of these events on people and property, and outlines how the City will ensure continuation of services, community livability and economic stability during and after a natural hazard.

This update of the City’s LHMP will be effective from 2022 through 2027. LHMPs are required to be updated and submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for approval every five years in order to maintain eligibility for certain disaster assistance grant programs.
