Diamond Bar City Council initiated its regularly scheduled meeting of Dec. 1 with the official declaration of the results of the Nov. 3, 2020, General Municipal Election, the swearing in of newly and re-elected council members, and the selection of a mayor and mayor pro tem for 2021.
Returning Council Member Ruth M. Low, elected to her third term, and newcomer Stan Liu emerged as the two top vote-getters. They will each serve a four-year term on the City Council.
During the City Council reorganization, Nancy A. Lyons and Ruth M. Low were unanimously selected by their colleagues to carry out one-year mayor and mayor pro tem roles, respectively. This is Lyons' second time serving as Diamond Bar mayor, and Low's second time serving as mayor pro tem.
Also during this meeting, City Council thanked outgoing Council Member Jennifer "Fred" Mahlke for her service on the City Council, and recognized Council Member Steve Tye for serving as Mayor this past year.
