Household Hazardous/Electronic Waste Collection Event

The next County-sponsored Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection takes place October 10. Residents may use this mobile, one-day collection event to properly dispose of HHW and electronic waste free of charge. The event takes place 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the L.A.County Fairplex, Gate 15, off Arrow Highway. Participants are asked to wear a mask, and remain in their vehicles at all times. Virtual Composting Workshops

The popular composting workshops have gone virtual! Residents are able to register for the free webinar to help beautify their home and garden, while diverting organics from the landfill. Webinars are approximately 45 minutes in length followed by a 15-minute period to answer questions. Compost bins are available for purchase at the conclusion of each workshop, $40 for the backyard and $65 for worm compost bin; the cost includes delivery. Los Angeles County is offering three workshops per week in the following topics:

Intro to Composting: Learn about backyard and worm composting to create a rich soil amendment to nourish your garden.

Water-wise Gardening: Create a beautiful drought-tolerant landscape and learn about grasscycling to fortify your lawn.

Organic Gardening: Build healthy soil, grow herbs and vegetables, and address plant pests and diseases using organic methods.

Small-space Gardening: Learn to grow plants in containers and set up a small-space worm composting system.
