New City Blog Introduces
Let's Talk Local Revenue Program
The current COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging on many fronts, forcing us all to adapt in our work and personal lives.
Those of you who have been following the regular updates from our governor and county public health officials know that while progress has been made in securing personal protective equipment, improving testing, and expanding hospital surge capacity, there is still a long way to go.
Without a vaccine to protect against COVID-19 infection, proper distancing, hand washing, surface disinfecting, face coverings when out in public, and staying at home as much as possible continue to be our best defense.
That said, we can’t ignore the serious and widespread economic toll this public health crisis is having on our business community, particularly those that have yet reopened.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City was preparing to launch a community engagement program in the spring. This program called “Let’s Talk Local Revenue” would consist of a series of community presentations and two-way communication exchanges focused on the city’s fiscal condition. As a participant, you’ll learn about the City’s financial history, how essential services like public safety, road maintenance, and parks and recreation are funded, and the challenges communities everywhere will face in a time of declining revenues and increased maintenance and operational costs.
Needless to say, this public health emergency disrupted our plan. We quickly shifted into action mode and modified our operations in accordance with state and county health officer orders to allow us to safely continue to serve our residents’ needs and maintain the essential services that keep the Diamond Bar community functioning and looking its best.
The County’s Reopening Plan is now underway, albeit in the early stages, which means group gatherings and in-person interactions will not be possible for some time to come. Therefore, we find ourselves adapting once again.
With this new City blog, we launch our “Let’s Talk Local Revenue” program. As an alternative to holding in-person presentations, will be sharing information electronically by way of this blog, interactive dashboards and virtual presentations. We want this to be a two-way communication so we will be making surveys available looking into other ways of soliciting your input and feedback. In the meantime, if you have any thoughts to share or questions, I can be reached directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or (909) 839-7016.
There is a dedicated web page on the City website at www.diamondbarca.gov/localmeasure. On this page you will find a copy of this blog, answers to frequently asked questions, fact sheets and infographics. Take a moment to check it out when you get a chance.
In closing, I want to extend my sympathies to those who have experienced or are experiencing loss, illness or financial strain, and my gratitude to COVID-19 responders and everyone doing what they can to help out a friend or stranger, or support our small businesses during this time of great need.
Stay safe and healthy. We look forward to seeing you soon.
