[ARCHIVED] Disposing of Household Chemicals

A typical household uses and stores a variety of hazardous products used for cleaning, painting, gardening, lubricating and disinfecting.

Common household hazardous products include shower and toilet bowl cleaners, carpet cleaners, rust removers, oil-based and latex paints, wood preservatives and stains, pesticides and fertilizers, antifreeze and motor oil, and swimming pool chemicals.

Because of their hazardous components, any leftover or unused products cannot be thrown in the regular trash, flushed down the toilet, or poured into a sink or drain. Instead, residents should take advantage of the free and convenient collection service offered by the City’s two contract waste haulers.

Waste Management, which services single-family homes, offers front door or garage area collection as part of its At Your Door Special Collection service. To schedule a pickup, complete an online request form at www.WMatyourdoor.com or call 800) 449-7587.

Condominium and other multi-family home residents should call Valley Vista Services at (800) 442-6454 to arrange their curbside collection. Items should not be placed out for collection without first calling to get an assigned pickup day.
