New Masking Guidelines

COVID Update Updated Masking Guidelines

On June 15, the County will join the State in adjusting its masking rules in alignment with guidance by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Fully Vaccinated Individuals

These new rules specify that fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear a mask or physically distance, except in the following settings where masks are required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status:

  • On public transit (planes, buses, trains, ferries, subways, taxis, rideshares, etc.) and in transportation hubs (airports, bus terminals, train stations, seaports, etc.)
  • Indoors in K-12 schools, childcare, and other youth settings (subject to change pending guidance from the CDC)
  • Healthcare settings including long-term care facilities
  • State and local correctional facilities and detention centers
  • Homeless shelters, emergency shelters, and cooling centers

Unvaccinated Individuals

Additionally, masks are required for unvaccinated individuals in indoor public settings and businesses, such as retail stores, restaurants, theaters, family entertainment centers, meetings, state and local government offices serving the public.

When it comes masking requirements at individual businesses or venues, the State allows business owners and facility operators to make and enforce their own rules. This can include self-attestation, vaccine verification, or requiring everyone to wear a mask, regardless or vaccination status.

The June 15 guidelines also state that nobody can be prevented from wearing a mask as a condition to participating in an activity or entering into, or receiving services from, a business.
