Collection Service Changes

Recycling Green Waste Schedule Change - SGV image of trash collection truck

Beginning Monday, December 28, 2020, Waste Management will make temporary changes to its collection services schedule. Green and recycling cart service will take place bi-weekly while trash collection (black cart) remains unchanged and takes place weekly. The temporary changes are due to COVID-19 staffing impacts and will continue until further notice.

The service rotation will be as follows:

  • week of December 28: Trash and recycling collection

  • week of January 4: Trash and green waste collection

  • week of January 11: Trash and recycling collection

  • week of January 18: Trash and green waste collection

  • week of January 25: Trash and recycling collection

Additional information provided by Waste Management:

  • Why didn’t I receive notice from Waste Management about the temporary service change? - Waste Management attempted to contact customers in the following manner: 1) text 2) email 3) phone call. If you did not receive a message, you may need to update your contact information. Reminder messages will be sent weekly as long as modified schedule remains in place.

  • What should I do with the extra green waste that doesn’t fit into my cart? - Extra green waste may be placed in trash bags and placed curbside for pick up the week your green waste cart is serviced. You do not need to schedule this with Waste Management, the drivers will be on the lookout for extra bags to pick up.

  • What should I do with the extra recyclables that don’t fit into my cart? - Please break down cardboard boxes to make room for extra recyclables or hold the recyclable items over for the next pickup. Unfortunately, if recyclables are placed in a plastic bag outside the cart, they will be picked up as trash.

  • Will I receive a credit on my billing statement for the change in services? - Since green waste and recycling will still be picked up on a modified schedule, there will not be any credits issued for this temporary situation.

  • How long do you estimate this modified schedule will remain in place? - The schedule modification was put into place in response to reduced staffing levels due to COVID-19 impacts, including quarantines, and once staffing levels return to normal the regular schedule will resume. We are anticipating that will be in February 2021.

  • What about my Christmas tree? - Trees will be picked up the same day as your green waste - weeks of January 4 and 18, 2021.

  • What about bulky item pickups? -  At this time, bulky item pickup will continue unchanged and you may schedule by calling customer service at (800) 266-7551.

  • Are these schedule changes only taking place in Diamond Bar? - In addition to Diamond Bar, the COVID-19 staffing impacts have affected several local communities.
