September 21, 2020 - The City of Diamond Bar has pledged $10,000 toward the reward for the capture of the suspect wanted in the recent shooting of two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.

“This truly was a senseless assault,” stated Mayor Steve Tye. “Every day our deputies put themselves at risk to protect our community and to be ambushed for simply doing their job is a sheer act of cowardness. I sincerely hope the suspect is swiftly brought to justice and punished to the of fullest extent of the law.”

The City’s contribution will be added to the $100,000 reward already issued by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman. Many of the other 42 cities that utilize the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services are also making similar pledges.

The City has contracted with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to provide public safety services since incorporation in 1989.

“Our hearts go out to the deputies and their families,” said Mayor Pro Tem Nancy Lyons. “We wish them both the best on their road to recovery.”

The shooting took place at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020, when a lone gunman approached the two deputies as they sat in their parked patrol SUV at a Metro Transit Center in the city of Compton. Both deputies survived the attack with serious injuries and one deputy remains in the hospital.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or may report anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
