What is Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste (HHW) is any product labeled as toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable, combustible, or irritant that is disposed. A typical home can contain a vast array of HHW from products used for cleaning, painting, fertilizing, lubricating, and disinfecting the house, pool, yard, workshop, and garage.
The City recommends three action levels: use it up, clean it up, and dispose of it properly.
Free & Convenient Curbside Pick Up
The City's franchise haulers are required to offer free curbside pickup of HHW as part of the City's refuse collection agreements. Waste Management and Valley Vista are the two franchise haulers that service the Diamond Bar community.
- Waste Management HHW pick-up: Residents serviced by Waste Management can schedule a free HHW curbside pick up by calling 1-800-449-7587 or online.
- Valley Vista: Residents that receive refuse collection service by Valley Vista can schedule a free HHW curbside pick up by calling 800-442-6454
Free Annual HHW Roundup Event
The City works with the County of Los Angeles on sponsoring intermittent round up events whereby residents can deliver their HHW at no charge, up to 125 pounds or 15 gallons. To learn about the nearest HHW round up, call 1-888-CLEAN LA or visit the Clean LA website.
Acceptable materials to bring to a roundup include the following:
- Batteries
- Cleaners
- Fuels
- Glues
- Oils
- Paints
- Pesticides
- Photography chemicals
- Pool
- Solvents
Items should be securely contained and clearly labeled before taking them to a roundup. Under no circumstance should you ever mix materials. Explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, regular trash, waste from businesses, and tires will not be accepted at a roundup.
