Community Emergency Response Team Program

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department offers Community Emergency Response Team Training (C.E.R.T.) free of charge to residents interested in learning how to better assist their family and community during an emergency.

Self-Help Program

The CERT program is a neighborhood self-help program that covers the basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not immediately available. The 20 hour program is taught by LA County Firefighters and consists of a series of classes that cover the following:

  • Disaster Fire Suppression
  • Disaster Medical Operations
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Light Search and Rescue Operations
  • Team Organization
  • Terrorism Awareness

The program concludes with a course review, a disaster simulation and graduation. Students must complete the 20 hour course in order to receive their certificate of completion and must be at least 18 years old to participate.
