New construction for the Verizon FTTP (“Fios”) project is currently at a halt. The current economic environment has delayed Verizon’s construction schedule, not just in Diamond Bar, but in many southland cities. Verizon plans to resume new construction early next year if their financial standing improves. Nevertheless, the City and Verizon continue to be committed to installing Fios city-wide. Additional updates will be posted as they become available.
City staff and inspectors continue to monitor Verizon’s work progress and residents continue to be notified of impending construction through City mailers and door hangers placed by Verizon ten days and 48 hours prior to construction in their neighborhood.
Close to 3,000 Diamond Bar homes are now equipped with the latest in communications technology, and Verizon anticipates adding at least 1,000 more to that figure by the end of this summer.
Verizon technicians are now working in a zone bounded by city limits to the north, Diamond Bar Boulevard to the east, Freeway 60 to the south and city limits to the west.
Project Description: Verizon Communications will begin construction work in Diamond Bar to extend its Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology. It will involve installation of new underground conduits, above-ground hub cabinets, and street resurfacing for open-cut trenched areas.
Example of street patchwork subsequent to underground installation of fiber optic lines. Location: Chino Hills (Butterfield Ranch Area)
** Right-of-way – typically extends 12 feet behind the curb and along the frontage of residential properties. See Example (right)
