SPECIAL BULLETINS
- Notice to the Public Regarding Distraction or Ruse Burglaries - posted 09/27/12
Distraction burglary is a crime in which elderly persons are often the targets. The perpetrator seeks to draw a resident out of the house on a pretext. This could be having the resident take them to the back yard because they need to test the water, or check on a broken pipe in a neighboring house, or to check the electrical power lines. They might just take the resident to the kitchen to test the water. Whatever the ruse is, they are looking to get the resident to an out-of-the-way location while leaving the front door unlocked, so an accomplice can enter the home and pick up valuables such as money and jewelry.
