Looking for ways to give back to your community?
What is it? – The Volunteen program offers teens the opportunity to become involved in their community while receiving work experience and leadership training throughout the summer.
About the Program - As a Diamond Bar Volunteen you may find yourself coaching a youth baseball team, engaging pre-schoolers in tiny tots, demonstrating how to make a lanyard in day camp, serving snacks to the seniors or helping set up the movie screen at concerts and movies in the park.
All of these activities are leadership and work experience that may lead you to a future job. Volunteer hours will be tallied for required school/church volunteer hours. At the end of the program you will receive a certificate and a letter from the program coordinator stating what program you worked in and all your hours.
Requirements - Applicants must be between the ages of 13 and 15 years and reside in Diamond Bar.
Program is limited to 40 applicants who must be available June through August to work at least five hours per week or 40 hours during the 11 weeks of summer. A Volunteen may volunteer a maximum of 40 hours per week.
Application Deadline – Applications will be available February 22 at the Diamond Bar Center, City Hall and here. The application due date is April 18, 2013. Interviews will be scheduled the third week in May. Selected applicants will be assigned to programs based on their availability, interest and room in the summer program.
